“Wi-Fi 6” is the newly given name to the networking standard “802.11ax”, why because the new name is easier for anyone to recognize and remember that a number followed by some alphabets.
This new naming standard is given by Wi-Fi Alliance, a non-profit organization that is responsible for promoting and certifying the products that meet the standards.
Not only the latest standard is renamed but also previous generations are renamed. So from now on, you don’t have to remember numbers to identify the devices that are compatible with the latest Wi-Fi generation standards.
The following are the Wi-Fi generations that had given new names:
- Wi-Fi 6 is the new name to identify the devices compatible with 802.11ax technology.
- Wi-Fi 5 is the new name to identify the devices compatible with 802.11ac technology.
- Wi-Fi 4 is the new name to identify the devices compatible with 802.11n technology.
