The first thing that a newbie blogger does is, submit their blog’s sitemap to Google webmaster tools. Well, that’s a good thing because 90% of the traffic we get on our blogs is from Google. I don’t want to downgrade other search engines but the thing is like that. But submitting to only one search engine is not a good idea.
As I said before, it is not good idea to put all your eggs in one bag, and it goes same for your blog also. You don’t want to rely only on Google search engine traffic, there are other search engines that drive good traffic for blogs and you want to make use these search engines traffic as well.
So we look into how to submit xml sitemaps to these top search engines that are available right now.
Submit XML Sitemap To Top Search Engines
Bing & Yahoo
Ask.com, formerly Ask Jeeves, is another popular search engine. Unlike Google, Yandex and Baidu it does not have its own Webmaster Tools, so it uses a different method to accept XML sitemaps of individual sites.
In the above line replace URL with your domain name. Copy whole line, paste it in browser address bar and press Enter to submit your blog sitemap to Ask.com. A confirmation message from Ask.com appears in the browser.
DuckDuckGo is another popular search engine which has some good privacy features provided to its users. We have covered DuckDuckGo search engine and its Webmaster Tools in our previous post, follow it for more information.
Aol search engine uses Bing search engine to index sites, so submitting your site to Bing Webmaster Tools is enough to get traffic from Aol.
MSN also uses Bing search engine so if you have submitted to Bing then its enough to get your site in MSN search results.
Now you know where to submit your XML sitemap to get indexed by popular search engines. Let me know in the comments if I have missed any search engine that needs to be mentioned in this post.
